Helpful Training Tips - Virtual College Library

Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Cummins Virtual College Library.  This training represents the latest in modular computer based training technology.  Following are installation instructions, computer specifications, and other technical notes that will help make your training a truly enjoyable experience.

INSTALLATION
Before you can install the Cummins Virtual College Library on your computer, you need to know what drive letter your CD-ROM drive is.  On most computers it will be the D drive, but it could be the E or F drive depending on how many hard disk drives you have.  If you have more than one CD-ROM drive in your computer, always use the drive with the lowest letter for the Cummins Virtual College.  For these instructions, we will assume the CD-ROM drive is the D drive.  If yours is different, substitute your drive letter.

1.
Verify that the computer you will be using meets the specifications at the end of these instructions.
2.
From your desktop click Start and then Run. A Run dialog box will appear.
3.
In the Run box, type D:\setup.exe and press the Enter key or click the OK button with the mouse.  The installation program will begin.
4. Follow the instructions and click the Next button to continue.  The installation program will install the necessary files on your computer.
5. Next, the installation program will ask if you would like a Virtual College Library icon added to your desktop.  This creates an easy way to access the Virtual College Library.  Make your selection and click Next.
Note:  Previous versions of the Virtual College placed an icon on your desktop for each training program.  The Virtual College Library has only one icon.
6.
Click the finish button.

OPTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE TRAINING

Smart Program Guide (access to QuickServe Online and Internet access required)
The Smart Program Guide (SPG) is the preferred mode to complete the virtual training.  To obtain a SPG, log on to QuickServe Online (QSOL) at quickserve.cummins.com – no www is required.  QSOL will point you to the proper location to obtain a SPG.  You will enter your ProMotion ID and then select the qualification program that you wish to complete.  QSOL then looks at the course requirements for the qualification program and subtracts any Cummins Virtual College courses that you have previously completed then generates a SPG that is custom tailored for you.  QSOL will then allow you to download (move) the SPG file from QSOL to a drive on your computer.  The SPG is then available to efficiently guide you through the completion of the required courses in the Virtual College Library.

TECHNICAL NOTES

Video Playback
This course uses high quality MPEG-1 video during the training. Microsoft’s Windows Media Player is the recommended software MPEG player for this program.  Based on the speed of your computer and speed of the video card, you will have different levels of success with video playback.  Unfortunately because of the many combinations of computer hardware available, you will have to try it on your computer to see if playback is acceptable.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Following are the most typical questions asked of the Help Desk with their solutions.

I get an MPEG PLAYBACK ERROR message- The computer does not currently have the capability to playback MPEG video files. See the Video Playback portion of this document for details.

I have been having problems with the course and finally decided to call the Help Desk to see what to do. - Most likely the Help Desk personnel can help you with your problem.  If things are not working properly, call the Help Desk at 1-800-239-5930 before you get overly frustrated.
I cannot see the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
If your taskbar is set to show all the time, it will cover the statusbar of the course.
