2010 Technology
The drive to reduce Diesel Emissions has made significant strides over the past year and 2010 is another step in that direction. Cummins has taken great pride in leading the efforts to meet the newest and strictest regulations in a consistent and thoughtful manner and meeting the 2010 Emission Standards is further proof of this dedication.

As demonstrated in the graph above, since 1998, Emission standards required a 90% reduction in particulate matter and a 95% reduction of NOx by 2010. Each of the significant milestones were achieved with technology advancements and improvements. In 1998 electronic controls and electronic controlled fuel systems allowed Cummins engines to meet EPA ’98 emission standards. The right technology at the right time.

In 2002, Cummins again proved their dedication to a cleaner environment and to developing the technology to achieve stricter emission standards. Introducing Cooled EGR as the “key” subsystem to reduce NOx allowed Cummins to be ready – on time.
When the standards got even stricter in 2007, Cummins was ready again with the introduction of Aftertreatment utilizing the Cummins Particulate Filter. This technology enables a reduction of particulates from .1 gram to 10 milligrams…near zero.

As 2010 draws near, Cummins again proves that the right technology matters. Utilizing both cooled EGR and the Cummins Particulate Filter along with proven Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) will enable our products to reach near zero emission requirements for both particulates and NOx.
