Cummins Northeast, Inc - Company History


1938
Began operations in New England as a repair shop in Cambridge, MA with 18 Employees.

1941
Opened a facility in Hartford. CT and the headquarters were transferred to the Hartford location. At this time, business was primarily involved in the sales and service of generator sets used on ships being built or repaired at the local shipyards.

1947
Growth of the company required larger premises and the branch moved to another location in Cambridge, MA.

1951
Cummins Diesel of New England was split into two distributorships; Cummins Diesel of New England based it’s new premises in Allston, MA and Cummins Diesel Engines settled in Hartford, CT. Later in the year, Cummins Diesel of New England opened a branch in Portland, ME to service the shipyards in that area and also opened a branch in W. Springfield, MA to service the construction companies building the Mass Turnpike.

1968
Continued growth required another move and the company relocated to a new 35,000 sq. ft. facility in Dedham, MA and changed it’s name to Cummins Northeastern.

1977
The company again changed hands and became Cummins North Atlantic. New premises were purchased in W. Springfield, MA.

1984
Cummins North Atlantic purchased the assets of Cummins Mohawk with branches in Albany, Syracuse and Williamsville, NY. The company now had more than 200 employees.

1988
Cummins North Atlantic purchased the assets of New England Engine, the Onan distributor for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont

1989
Cummins North Atlantic purchased the assets of the Leen Company, the Onan Distributor for Maine.

1992
The company changed ownership and became Cummins Northeast, Inc.

1993
Power Plant Equipment was purchased by CNE, expanding the Onan line into Syracuse and Albany, NY.

1996
CNE purchases Ronco Equipment further expanding the Onan line into Rochester and Williamsville, NY.

1999
Built a new facility in Albany, NY.

2003
Moved the Administrative Offices to 333 Elm St. Dedham, MA.

2007

Cummins implemented new branding guidelines resulting in new logos.


2008
Moved Administrative office to 3 Allied Dr. Dedham, MA and built a new facility in Buffalo, NY.
